Instructions After Extraction
Naturally:
- A small amount of blood may bleed along with redness in the saliva
- Swelling occurs after the extraction within two days and goes away within a week
- Difficulty opening the mouth and stiffness in the jaw muscles after extraction.
- Jaw movement gradually improves within two weeks.
Should Do:
- Biting on the piece of gauze placed by the doctor for about an hour.
- Adhere to the medications prescribed by the doctor at the specified times.
- See a doctor if severe bleeding continues for more than 8 hours.
- Be careful not to bite the numb lip and tongue for two hours.
Preferably:
- Apply cold compresses to the extraction site according to the doctor’s instructions.
- Sleeping on the first night so that the head is higher than the body (to prevent fluids from accumulating in the face)
- Eat ice cream only on the first day and eat soft food for the next two days, while chewing on the other side.
Not To Do:
- Drink or eat anything hot for 24 hours.
- Use a straw to drink.
- Avoid any strenuous activity for 12 hours after surgery
- Smoking for at least 24 hours
- Use the brush for 8 hours, or touch the extraction area.
