Instructions After Extraction

Naturally:

  • A small amount of blood may bleed along with redness in the saliva
  • Swelling occurs after the extraction within two days and goes away within a week
  • Difficulty opening the mouth and stiffness in the jaw muscles after extraction.
  • Jaw movement gradually improves within two weeks.

 

Should Do:

  • Biting on the piece of gauze placed by the doctor for about an hour.
  • Adhere to the medications prescribed by the doctor at the specified times.
  • See a doctor if severe bleeding continues for more than 8 hours.
  • Be careful not to bite the numb lip and tongue for two hours.

 

Preferably:

  • Apply cold compresses to the extraction site according to the doctor’s instructions.
  • Sleeping on the first night so that the head is higher than the body (to prevent fluids from accumulating in the face)
  • Eat ice cream only on the first day and eat soft food for the next two days, while chewing on the other side.

 

Not To Do:

  • Drink or eat anything hot for 24 hours.
  • Use a straw to drink.
  • Avoid any strenuous activity for 12 hours after surgery
  • Smoking for at least 24 hours
  • Use the brush for 8 hours, or touch the extraction area.
